Why “bad” things happen to “good” people

One of the most common questions about the world that people ask is simply, “why do bad things happen to good people?” Unfortunately, the answer isn’t as simple as “the universe doesn’t care”, or “Life isn’t fair” or “the world isn’t fair”. These answers don’t answer the fundamental issue: what is “good” and what is “bad”? How should one behave? What is the right way to live?

Humanity has had these questions for a long time, because we don’t accept ourselves completely yet. I am not saying that simply accepting yourself completely is the answer to the question, because it is not. All I am saying is that questions about human behavior arise only when one is unwilling to accept oneself completely. A child, for instance, doesn’t care how it behaves until it encounters a situation where things don’t work out. At that point, the question (even if it is wordless) arises: what happened, what went wrong and what can I do?

This is human intelligence at work, at least the part of it that wants to understand the world in which we live, which includes your body.

So let’s get to the heart of the matter.

“Life isn’t fair”

Like all ideas, this one is wrong. The framework of language has allowed us to express our pain and suffering, as well as all kinds of emotions in words. But “unfairness” isn’t an emotion. Unfairness, is a feeling, one that is a consequence of thinking that we should have something when we don’t (or perhaps the other way round!). Like all feelings, it exists entirely in the psychological layer, unless it starts to sink in and become a deep-seated narrative that drives your behavior. Once it’s inside, it no longer is a feeling but it will drive you to do things differently than you would if you didn’t carry this influence within you. You are likely to find lots of situations in the world (if not in your own life then on the news, for example) that will“confirm” this belief. And so it goes.

However, our universe has no system of judgment, or reward or anything else for that matter that comes close to such things. Life is intelligent and intelligent things are accepting, compassionate, loving and wise. Have you ever seen an intelligent human being judge, be vile or reject anyone?

So if this is the case, is it the world that’s unfair? No, the world does have its preferences, and those preferences have everything to do with keeping the world alive. And just like the universe, the world has no ethics or morality as such, so it will take whatever it wants and use it in order to continue existing. I am talking about everything from pornography to abuse to justice and kindness—basically everything human beings have to give! So no, it’s not the world either.

So what’s going on? Why are some people so wealthy and others not? Why do some people face accidents or diseases while others seemingly go through life like a breeze? Is there something we can do about our lives?

Yes and no.

What you can do

The answer to this question depends entirely on what level of life you identify with. There are several layers to your body and each layer is responsible for some things and not others. For instance, at the very superficial level, you have a psychological layer (what I call the “psyche”). The psyche is created by your physical body, and is physical in nature, even though you can’t “see” it. It’s a chemical, biological and physical process by which you either absorb energy or give out energy in a certain form. When that energy is tainted with information, we call it a thought or a feeling. These things are floating all over the place, which is why you can go someplace and suddenly have a feeling you’ve never had before, or hear a thought that has nothing to do with you.

Personally, I am not a fan of traveling in close proximity with other people, like we do on airplanes. Not only is the air stale, there is too much of it, constantly in motion thanks to the A/C, which causes anxiety in lots of people. Then there’s the noise, horrible food, etc. But the worst part is the fact that on an airplane, everyone is in everyone else’s filth. We are biological entities, sure and we constantly put out waste product, but we do it at the energy level as well. Your body is always cleansing, trying to get rid of external influences (which is what you often experience as thoughts and feelings, in fact!). So to be sitting in close proximity to hundreds of other people doing the same thing is extremely unhealthy. It’s like traveling in a public toilet!

Then there’s your physical body, which is also giving out heat, energy in other forms, etc. Your physical body is almost entirely out of your control, as most of its functions are automatic. You may think you have control over your limbs, for example (or to some extent, your breath), but all this is being controlled by a deeper layer, one which I call “God”, or in some cases by the world. What do I mean “by the world”? I mean that the influences you are exposed to on a daily basis control what actions you are going to perform, and how.

And then there’s finally your energy layer. Most of us aren’t even aware that such a layer exists, so we can forget about this one, although this is the level at which I work for you. This one is not at all in most people’s control, even though they try sometimes, using kriyas or energy work, some types of yoga, etc.

It should be pretty clear from what you’ve read so far that, in fact, there isn’t much you can do.

Is life pre-determined?

People struggle to admit that in fact, they do not feel in control of everything, or that they don’t feel responsible for everything. Especially corporate America, which is a cesspit of ignorance and stupidity, constantly perpetuates this idea that somehow, you as a person, are in control of your life. Or that they can help you take control of it. It is out of this kind of belief that we have created a civilization where the vast majority of people feel anxious, vilified, judged, chastised or simply that they are always doing things wrongly.

But in recent years, things have really begun to unravel. The system of control has become so strong that people are unable to move forward, causing all of us to question whether we are truly in charge. Knowledge of history and repeating events such as famines, wars and genocide have called into question our ability to really do anything about what’s going on, on this planet. The relentless pace of technological progress seems to have caught up with us, with even technology firms actively warning us about the dangers of AI, while simultaneously being seemingly unable to stop its advance.

So is life pre-determined on this Earth or following a plan by God? No, of course not and we all know it. But we are unwilling to accept the only solution to the problem: raise our intelligence.

Raise your intelligence

The level of intelligence with which your system operates decides how it performs the actions it does. This is what is called The Way, in Christianity. Now, people got really confused when Jesus said (supposedly) that He was The Way. It caused a lot of people to think that they just had to believe in Jesus, whatever that means or follow His teachings, which is reasonable. But The Way isn’t about what you do. It’s about how you do it. And how you do something isn’t about your attitude. It is about how you are. But what does that mean?

How you are is about your energy, specifically, how clean it is and how it’s functioning. When your energy system is polluted with all kinds of problems, you can’t see clearly. As a result, you tend to act (and this is why you can’t consciously control it) in certain ways and not other ways, and usually the way you act will be wrong. Let me give you a simple example.

Assume that you have a piece of bad news that you have to communicate to a friend. Let’s say that you’re a female and you’ve just found out that your best friend’s new boyfriend is “cheating” on her. You desperately want to help your friend, but you also feel pity for her boyfriend because in fact, it is you he has cheated with! A true moral dilemma, wouldn’t you say? All you wanted was to comfort him but things got out of hand and then you learned about his other “relationship”. So what do you do?

If you are screwed up in the head, you would find all kinds of ways to take advantage of the situation, maybe convincing him to lie and continuing a horrible relationship. You could convince yourself that in fact, there’s nothing wrong with “free love” or some such nonsense. Or maybe you go find some “spiritual” saying that says things like “you are just the sky, so be a witness”, blah blah! Now you’re justified in doing just about anything.

I am not saying that you would have any control over all these decisions. I am saying that depending on how you are corrupted, you will end up going one way or another. The truth is you shouldn’t have engaged in such an act in the first place, whether or not he was dating your best friend. Why? Because you have better things to do than have sex with some random person. What am I talking about? I am talking about your goal in life. Are you here to simply pleasure yourself or comfort other people, or do you want to create something beautiful?

If the latter were your goal in life (and it should be the only goal!), then why would you mindlessly go pollute your energy with someone else’s? You would at least wait and try to find a good human being that you can create something beautiful with, right? So once you are in a hole, you have to get out of it and then clean yourself. In this case, you would probably have to get rid of both of them, apologize, take the pain (or screaming, depending on them), not retaliate and tell yourself that you need to seek help, heal, focus on your own life, revisit how you wish to live, etc. In other words, you would finally realize that you need to take care of yourself properly.

And the only way to ensure that you don’t repeat this type of behavior is to see life clearly, know what you really want to do and allow your intelligence to show you the way. In other words, you would have to raise your intelligence.

The criminality of ordinary people

Most ordinary people believe that they are completely blameless while at the same time feeling guilty about the way the world is. As a civilization, we routinely destroy the planet in order to create products and services no one needs, just to make money. We routinely support limited ideologies or politicians that lie, cheat, steal or denigrate certain groups of people. We routinely try to hide our true selves in order to present a more conformant, acceptable face to the world. We routinely abuse our children by forcing them to sit together in small classrooms and learn about things that will simply not help them. We routinely put pleasure and comfort at the top of our priority list, and tell ourselves that we cannot care for the poor or the homeless. We routinely dump responsibility on “God”, government, the other political party or “the system” without ever investigating if our beliefs are, in fact, correct. We routinely go on vacations, spending enormous amounts of money, time, energy and wasting resources just to feel better.

All this accumulates a lot of corruption in the system and yet, people believe that they are only deserving of the good things in life.

The truth is that there are no “good” people or “bad” people. Evil, anyway, doesn’t exist. All there is, is corruption of the body at various layers. Almost all of us are engaged in a lifelong pursuit of comfort and therefore, blind to the damage we are causing ourselves, to each other and to the planet. No one is guilty, because most of it is happening due to sheer ignorance. No, people aren’t ignorant of what they are doing, but they are ignorant of what they can do to change it.

However, from the point of the universe, all this behavior is criminal. No, it won’t judge you, but you will suffer by your own accord. Once you know that you must change, you must spend time, energy, money, resources—everything—to discover and understand the reasons behind your own behavior. The reason I keep talking about enlightenment is because enlightenment simply means raising your intelligence so that you can behave properly. Will it solve all your problems overnight? Of course not, because we live in time, and it takes time to get through anything. But you must start!

So let’s stop calling people “good” or “bad”. Everyone has a responsibility to raise their intelligence and take care of things better. If you want the world to be a happier place to live, first, you must raise your own intelligence and start behaving well. When that happens, the world itself will change to be a different world, one where things like accidents, war, genocide, etc. are simply impossible. In a world like that, the question we are asking will simply not even arise.
