Give up your spiritual practice
I have been on Quora and Reddit a lot lately, answering questions, perusing other people’s posts, working through understanding at least a part of the population’s spiritual concerns. Most of the questions on there are quite irrelevant to my spiritual point of view, you could say. I don’t have any interest in “manifesting”, for example, nor am I interested in the occult, “goddesses” and many other esoteric topics. I have also never encountered a guru that really wanted to talk about subjects like this, because at the end of the day, spirituality is not a scholarly undertaking, nor is it some kind of research project.
My focus is entirely on bringing spirituality down to Earth, making it accessible to normal people and eliminating all the junk that it has accumulated over millennia. Obviously I will fail because there are many human beings on this Earth that wish to be known as spiritual, or wish to discover something new or even just pretend that they are spiritual because it makes them feel superior or whatever. In other words, you can wake up someone who is sleeping, but you cannot wake up someone who is pretending to be asleep.
“You can wake up someone who is sleeping, but not someone pretending to be asleep.”
Understand your goals
As I’ve said before, spirituality is a choice. You can choose to follow the spiritual path consciously, or you may choose not to do so. There is nothing wrong with living a worldly life. Until I was reminded of who I was and what I came here to do, I too, lived a normal life. Yes, I was always curious to learn about this thing that was inside me, but I didn’t pick up spirituality because I wanted to be a yogi or become a guru, etc. I honestly thought that the Bhagavad Gita was amazing and I always gravitated towards people like Jesus because I just felt a kinship, you could say. I had heard about gurus and yogis all my life and I wanted to know who these people were and what they were about. I heard all kinds of nonsensical things from my family about God and the various gods and goddesses that supposedly exist in some other realm. But I never got a straight answer to life’s questions.
So my goal was to simply understand what was going on. I never wanted to be “spiritual” as such but I tried meditating when I read about it in a book by Swami Vivekananda. Sadly, it didn’t do anything for me. I just never got anywhere randomly meditating. And forget about yoga—I didn’t want anything to do with it as a child. In fact, I joined a school for Martial Arts and learned Karate and Kung Fu instead.
What I am saying to you is that I followed my interests but never felt like I was going to get anywhere by myself. I wished to surrender myself to a real guru and follow their guidance so that I may actually get somewhere. And this happened later in life, when I found a bunch of enlightened beings talking online about the self and other things. Nisargadatta Maharaj, Mooji, Ramana Maharshi and finally Sadhguru, all these people came into my life.
Meeting a guru
I was over the moon when I got the chance to meet a guru. I went to DC and attended his talk. And I was thoroughly disappointed. I thought that I was going to be recognized by him in some way, because I had had so much experience by then, was so sincere and interested and frankly, felt like he had called me to see him. Out of the blue, I had found his program. So he had come into my life—I hadn’t tried to find him.
Anyway, after the talk I decided that I needed more, so I went back for another program and really gave myself to it. And when I did, I was amazed. Even in his presence, despite never having done any kriyas and such, I experienced a weird surge in energy between my hands like I had never done. It was awesome and besides that, everything he was saying made sense to me. I felt like I already knew all that he was sharing, because it felt like common sense.
See, the thing about even this guru, is that all he wanted was for us to be with him. The practice I learned had nothing to do with enlightenment as such—it was simply energy work, aka kriya. And boy did it work. I didn’t know what I was going to experience, but the experience of it was crazy. I started seeing all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff every day, but one fine day, it all got too much and I found it impossible to sustain my practice. Pretty much right after, my system crashed and I gave up my practice. It just stopped.
I am telling you this because you must understand—I used to be really diligent about my practice. Right at 3:40 AM I would sit down, as instructed, do the practice and then go to work later. But one fine day, I just couldn’t anymore. It just became impossible.
Stop meditating by yourself
I am saying to you “stop meditating” because I know first hand that breath work, especially, is super powerful. Yoga is the same way—it is supernatural technology and very powerful. I know how crazy I felt when I was going through spiritual experiences every single day. So I ask other people to stop, unless they’re being guided by a guru. How do I know? Well, people being guided by a guru don’t ask questions on Reddit—they go to their guru, if they have one, or at least, they read their gurus teachings and try to make sense of it.
“If you are not being guided by a living guru, stop your self-prescribed spiritual practice immediately.”
There is nothing to be “gained” by spiritual practice, as such. People have become enamored with terms like “enlightenment” because they think it will make them special or maybe make them wiser or make them appear like a sage. But all of these goals are egotistical. You don’t gain anything on the spiritual path. In fact, you lose everything!
“On the spiritual path, first, you lose everything.”
Why does this happen? Well, when you give up your survival instinct, there is no chance you will hold onto anything in life. In the world in which we live, when you don’t want to hold onto anything, something or someone will take it away from you. You already know that’s how the world works. I am not saying people will come into your life and steal things magically. I am saying that you, whenever you are asked to give up something, will willingly do so on the spiritual path. You will not have any sense of what it means to be wealthy, for example, so money will not mean a thing to you. You will not ask for a promotion, or make moves that give you an advantage over others, etc. You will simply live and allow things to happen to you. It is the total opposite of what the world wants from you, at least in narrative form.
No worldly benefit
I know there are people who claim that spirituality is a way to become wealthy or that you can use the laws of the universe to make money, etc. I honestly have no clue if the occult actually works, because I haven’t ever tried it, nor am I interested. There are certain things that have never been a part of my life: prostitution, criminality, drug use, the occult, etc. To me, if it’s not natural, I want nothing to do with it, really.
The natural way of being spiritual provides no worldly benefit whatsoever. Telling the truth, being honest, never retaliating, never depending on anything but life, trusting life, in fact, to do the right thing—all these are of no use in a worldly sense. This is why I tell people to continue living their lives and critically examine why they want to be spiritual in the first place, if at all. Not all of us need to be as enlightened as the gurus. In fact, many of you need to be gainfully employed in the world so that you may support people like me who have no ability to make money, hold a job or perform anything but service for all of you. And this is part of the reason I wish to start an ashram, so that Tucson may have a safe space for women who wish to contribute spiritually without having to go through what I am going through.
But, you may say “you have had jobs before”. Yes, and they were not at all of my choosing. I simply followed life, and people came into my life and offered me a job, or told me to go get one or told me to quit and find another one and I simply did. Of course, in the beginning I was in a state of surrender and didn’t really make choices, but even afterwards, I have consistently been given something or the other—an idea, a job, a way to move forward, etc. I haven’t “come up” with ideas on my own, nor have I ever made any moves of my own.
If you are asking why I didn’t follow my desires, well, it’s because I’ve never had desires. I’ve always known what I should do, right down to once buying an XBox playing it and then, never using it again! Everything would suddenly come into my life and then disappear, or stay.
To this day, I wake up and simply start typing on the blog, or on Reddit, or Quora or make a post on Instagram—life simply flows and I don’t control it. If this sounds scary to you, this is how it is when you’re enlightened. You don’t make plans, you just do or don’t.
Living beautifully doesn’t require full enlightenment
Many of you want a safe and comfortable life. I understand, but that’s not a good thing. What you need, is a beautiful life, one that makes you want to get up in the morning and contribute, not just to the world, but to the welfare of all human kind. It is unconscionable that you accept a life where you know that someone (maybe yourself) is being exploited in some way just so some random person can get rich. If you are working for any kind of business, this is ultimately the goal. There is simply no reason for us to have all these products, services, apps and so much garbage everywhere, all just so a few people can get wealthy. Even if you are a farmer and do the valuable work of growing food, you know just how much exploitation there is in the system, not least of it includes polluting the Earth with pesticides, artificial fertilizer and so on.
But you must accept poverty if you want to live beautifully.
“In our world, you MUST accept poverty if you want to live beautifully and create a better world.”
You cannot completely eliminate all use of the systems we have in place, nor become totally independent of the supply chain, which is global at this point. However, you must minimize your use of resources, live as minimally as possible and seek that which matters: love. By now I hope you understand that I am not talking about relationships, but that deep satisfaction that comes from being available to life. No, you don’t have to go all the way like I did. You can live a good life, understand life well, have empathy, be kind, have love to give, share in all you have freely and most importantly, create a world where young people actually have a shot at life! Our children are really struggling with this world we’ve handed them—it makes no sense, is cruel and unjust and demeaning to all.
If it sounds like I am asking you to both get enlightened and also not get enlightened, I am not. I am simply asking you to consider getting on the spiritual path if you wish to serve humanity spiritually, but support and help those who are on the path if you yourself do not wish to serve spiritually.
In other words, spend your time, energy, money and resources on those who are walking the path instead of buying crap you don’t need. Spend time with spiritual workers so you may be inspired to embrace poverty and live minimally, while working in the world and earning a living. Use your resources to support real spiritual people everywhere because they are the hardest working bunch of them all—and they ask for nothing. And learn from gurus as to how you can use your power to create a better world for all, because you don’t have to be fully enlightened to reclaim it and use it properly. You can start by preventing corporate America, for example from co-opting your power—I can write more about that.
“It isn’t everyone’s job to serve humanity spiritually. That’s *my* job :)”
You don’t all have to be enlightened, be yogis or gurus, full-fledged. It is a noble goal to want to do so, but if you have other gifts, please use them instead of squandering them. I myself wasn’t ever given any other gifts. I borrowed whatever I could from others in order to do my corporate jobs, etc. but I have none of those skills. I can write (these aren’t even my own words, because they come to me!) and I can love perfectly, no matter who you are, but beyond that, all that happens is thanks to the Divine Feminine. I have zero other skills, but you’re not like that.
So don’t get on the spiritual path unnecessarily, stop your needless meditation, yoga, occult or whatever unnatural practice you’ve taken up without a true guru’s guidance. Instead, make your presence felt in the work I, and many others around the world are doing. I cannot prove this to you today, but if you do this, you will die fulfilled.
