A guide to a sustainable lifestyle

Having experienced several different kinds of lifestyles in this one life, I have seen what happens in various parts of the United States in different kinds of workplaces. Like many of us, I know what it’s like to wake up early, get to work before others, work later than everyone else, spend the weekends working, sleeping at or under my desk, eating poorly or skipping meals and generally making work the most important thing in life. We all know that such a lifestyle is unsustainable and that it has a horrible impact on our health in the long run, but most of us do not have the freedom to change it, because of timings imposed on us by our workplaces, or kids needing to go to school and come home at certain times, or even silly things like competition in the workplace that requires us to prove that we’re doing more than someone else.

Instead of simply telling you what to do (because one size does not fit all), I am going to help you understand what is happening throughout the day so that you can naturally begin to change.

Why mornings are difficult

The standard American workplace begins at 8:00 AM, which is fine. The problem isn’t the time, but what happens at that time. People are expected to come into work and “hit the ground running”, as they say. Sometimes the day starts with meetings instead of silence, which is particularly jarring. But let’s begin at the beginning, which is when you wake up.

The worst thing people can do begins right at the beginning of the day, and that is people wake up way too early. The energy of our planet does not stay the same all day. It fluctuates depending on the season, the weather and the time of the day. Of course, it is also influenced by comets, meteors, solar flares and so on, but their effect is usually fleeting, so we don’t bother unless someone is doing spiritual work. The period of the day between 2 AM and 6 AM is usually filled with a kind of instability, one that will tend to wake you up if you are not sleeping deeply. You may not have a choice in this matter, especially if you work a blue-collar job or need to commute long distances. However, your body is not awake, and no amount of coffee will help.

Yes, everyone’s heard the adage that goes “early to bed, early to rise…”. Unfortunately it is false. Your body does not want to wake up until the sun’s energy is available. And when I say available, I mean visible. Until it is dawn, it’s a bad idea to get out of bed. If you do, you will waste energy that you could have used to plan the day, and I don’t mean that you should lie in bed and start mapping out your calendar.

It is only when you sleep that your body is given clues to what will happen the next day. Believe it or not your body already knows what it wants to do during the day, but most people ignore it and pay attention to the world instead. All night long, your body works on a range of things. First, it digests all the food. Then it cleanses the system and finally, starts receiving insights about the next day. Both digestion and cleansing are not just physical, but also spiritual. If you don’t let this process complete, you will not wake up properly. This is how most Americans live—they cannot wake up unless there is an alarm blaring, followed by coffee. Neither is necessary.

Take a break after cleansing

Another thing people do in the morning is start running around from one activity to another. Going to the toilet, shaving, showering, breakfast, not to mention rushing kids through their morning to get them ready, all happens in a blur. By the time people leave the house, most of them are already tired. This is something that used to puzzle me in the beginning—people would come to work and when I asked how they were, the answer would be “tired”. How can you be tired first thing in the morning?

The thing is, your body carries a lot of different kind of energies in the morning. When you go to the toilet (which I hope you do every morning), your body dumps a whole bunch of garbage, not just physically but also energetically. This causes the body to immediately go out of balance, which is why it takes a little bit of time for your body to readjust and harmonize what’s left. Every single activity, even shaving and showering, change your body’s energy significantly. So at least after your cleansing activities are done, before you start putting on your clothes, it is extremely important to come back to a state of silence, once again. Almost no one does that, causing everything from anxiety to diseases in the body getting worse.

I don’t want you to do something stupid like practice meditation at this time. I wholeheartedly discourage people from meditating, because they don’t know how to do it and cause more harm than good. Meditation is something that happens, once you’ve reached a certain level of spiritual energy. Everyone that is doing it, is doing it wrong, period. Instead of sitting, lie down and just be quiet. That’s all.

Keep your windows and doors closed

Most of the anxiety you experience in the mornings is not yours, but other people’s. Early in the morning, people are very unstable and throw out a lot of bad energy. If you want to minimize their impact, simply keep all your doors, windows and blinds closed. Until you have cleansed yourself and are actually ready to meet the world, you should minimize your exposure to the world. For this reason, it is also a horrible idea to check email, watch TV, go online, etc. Mornings are for you to get ready. Don’t compromise your time by giving your attention to the outside world, or even to the rest of your family. You must reserve as much time for yourself as you can.

Besides, children that don’t want to go to school shouldn’t be forced. If they don’t want to wake up, why don’t you let them be? Can’t you find another way of schooling them? In any case, our world has changed enough that traditional schooling has become next to useless, so you might as well adapt now.

In fact, it is a good idea to keep your doors, windows and blinds closed all day, unless you live in a secluded area where the energy outside is spectacular in the mornings. This is especially true of deserts, where the energy in the mornings is sweet and beautiful. But even in the desert, you should really be closing your windows by the time it’s around 10 AM. The sun is very harsh in the desert.

Avoid breakfast if possible

If your mornings involve heavy physical activity, you cannot go without breakfast. However, everyone else should skip it if possible. Your body is simply not interested in consuming more food (assuming you’ve had dinner). It is still processing yesterday’s meal, in fact. Any desire or need for food is actually a need for grounding. When your body isn’t properly grounded, it will ask for food, especially sweet stuff. It’s a really bad idea to stuff your body with sugar because sugar is basically a poison that lowers your body’s energy. Instead of eating breakfast, see if your system can be grounded in other ways. Decaf coffee is a good choice, if you don’t mind the chemicals used to process them, and so is sparkling water. But these are only good for grounding—they may have other negative effects on you, so don’t simply take my suggestions.

The best thing you can do to ground yourself in the morning, as well as harmonize your energy, is give yourself a massage.

Self-massage is highly recommended

I cannot state this more seriously: do not ever get a massage from someone else, especially from the opposite sex. The only exception to this rule is if you are really sick, or pregnant and you cannot massage yourself properly. Your body does not want energy from anyone else—it causes the body a lot of stress and takes a lot of time to process and cleanse. Whenever you come in physical touch with someone else, you take on their influences, even if it’s just a handshake. And a massage is a very intimate activity—not much different from sex itself. You don’t need this kind of energy in your life. So what to do?

Use your own hands and give yourself a massage. And when I say a massage, I mean it: a firm touch, covering every single part of your body, head to toe, even the parts you find hard to reach. And this is important: do not be ashamed of your body, be shy or be resistant if you start to feel pleasure. Your body is naturally made to respond pleasurably to your own energy. When you give it a massage, you will find it waking up and rejuvenating itself. Take care not to descend into sexual activity, but at the same time, if you feel sensual, don’t judge yourself. It will take you some time to understand the line between love and sex. You want to focus on loving the body, not engaging in sexual activity. You will be surprised how pure your body actually is—it doesn’t actually want sex all the time. Once you realize just how pure and fulfilling love is, you will never be afraid to give yourself a whole body massage.

However, avoid all physical touch with other people. Throughout the day, you must not even touch your lover/wife/spouse, whomever. You must especially make sure that your kids are not being touched, by you or others. They will not grow healthy and secure if they are constantly handled by random people. Affection is needed, but not when you are covered in the garbage of the world. Make sure to be affectionate with your loved ones only when you are clean.

The meaning of “namaste”

At one point in the US, it became fashionable to greet people with “namaste”, the folded-hands greeting that started in Eastern traditions. It’s idiotic, because namaste has nothing to do with spirituality. It is an entirely physical act, and one that is designed to preserve your state of balance. When you put your left and right hand together, it balances your energy and keeps you stable. The reason you fold your hands when you meet someone is that you don’t want their influence knocking you off balance, no matter who they are. In fact, if you really cared about namaste and what it’s for, you would keep your hands folded the entire time you are interacting with another. That is its purpose. It is a form of yoga.

I don’t want to see any of you pretending to be spiritual and doing namaste, but don’t be an idiot and shake hands, touch or hug each other either. Just keep your distance and don’t bother if others are offended—you don’t owe anything to the stupid people of the world. In this aspect, I was very happy that COVID-19 came and went, because now lots of people prefer to keep their distance instead of falling on top of each other.

Stay hungry and eat ravenously

A common sight in American restaurants is the presence of large numbers of people eating while talking, texting, browsing or even working. And the way people eat is as if they are bored by the food. I’ve hardly ever seen anyone really eating with interest, never mind unbroken attention, but that is how you should eat. The reason most people don’t eat properly is because they are simply not hungry. There is too much food in the body already, or there’s so much energy imbalance that the body is not ready to eat.

Most office workers should be able to get by with two small meals a day. Most physical workers need to eat whenever they can. But no matter what, everyone should wait and stay hungry until they really must eat. And you must be so hungry that you don’t have the time or energy to pay attention to anything else. In other words, you must be famished and eat like an animal if you can: trying to get as much food in you as possible. You don’t have to be uncivilized about it, but if you aren’t eating with utmost attention, non-stop while the food is still around and basically ignoring everything else, you are not hungry enough.

This brings me to the other problem people create for themselves: they eat what they believe is good for them, often with no interest. Never do that—you must always eat what you really want to! But for this to happen, your energy system must be relatively healthy, so for now, you may not be able to follow this practice. As time passes and you get healthier, you will naturally only eat what you really want: yes, even if it happens to be a piece of cake and a soda. Don’t bother with calorie guidelines, food pyramids or even nutrition labels. Your body knows exactly what it wants, so allow it to experience and learn.

Poison is necessary

When I say “poison”, I am talking about a little bit of impurity in your food and drink. I am not talking about alcohol, cigarettes, or “recreational” drugs, all of which are totally unnecessary. The body needs a little bit of poison in order to stay healthy, because only when there’s poison does the body go into overdrive and try to get rid of every bad thing it finds, everywhere. A little bit of poison causes the body to wake up and remain alert, instead of falling into a state of laxity. Exactly what kind of poison the body wants is up to the body. It may come in the form of sugar, impurity in the food, added chemicals (e.g. MSG), or even people. Sometimes you may wish to go online and look at someone’s photograph, like a celebrity, because celebrities, especially females who are constantly exposed to negative attention, tend to give out a lot of poison in their energy—they simply cannot help it because their bodies are overwhelmed by the garbage of the world. This is why people sometimes put up posters of celebrities in their rooms, especially when young. It’s got nothing to do with sex, however much you may think it does—it has to do with the body’s need for poison.

I say this to you because I don’t want you to judge yourself for your behavior, no matter what it is. I want you to understand it, and know that you are not a sinner, no matter what you are up to. It’s just that your energy system needs a crutch when it’s out of balance and that crutch can become a bad dependency if you don’t learn to balance on your own two feet. Eventually, these things turn into addictions and become difficult to eliminate.

Once you are in balance, very simple things will suffice. I, for instance, get all the poison I need from tap water. I don’t filter it, on purpose, and whatever’s in the water is enough to cause my body to react and throw out the garbage. That’s all it takes.

Work as little as possible

Americans like to talk about “work ethic” and working hard is accepted as the means to a productive and fulfilling life. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only does too much work deplete the body, it is also the number one reason people don’t understand themselves.

I do not recommend a hedonistic lifestyle—it is even worse than working hard. I’ve seen some cultures prioritize personal pleasure above all else and they are some of the sickest human beings on Earth, spiritually speaking. People like that cannot be counted upon to make the world a better place as most of them have spent their energies pleasuring themselves or each other. But what you do need, is rest, lots and lots of rest.

I don’t really care what your boss or your corporation has to say—you must work as little as possible to get the job done and rest. Corporate America does not create anything worthwhile, so you will not be doing anyone a disservice by giving as little as possible to them. If, as a result, you get demoted, consider it a blessing to have less responsibility than before. Anyway, as I’ve written before, you should know that you aren’t the one acting—either God or the world is, so it’s not your responsibility to keep the world running. Your body needs more rest than it needs sleep, so if you are sleeping 8 hours a night, you need more than 8 hours of rest during the day. Typically, this means you will only be able to work for a few hours a day, nowhere close to the standard 8 hours everyone is expecting (or far worse in some professions).

The reality is that no one is really working 8 hours—I’ve seen what office workers are like, in many different industries. Inattention, chit-chat, aimless browsing, breaks, all these take up a lot of time. I haven’t seen anyone put in any more than 4 hours of focused, productive work in a day. So just be honest with yourself about how much you can really work, and rest more.

When the sun goes down, so should you

Some of the worst lifestyles on this Earth are of those who play or work after the sun has already set. Big cities are the worst in this aspect, with some of them never really shutting down. Not only does this have a negative impact on those who are active at night, it negatively affects everyone else that is trying to sleep.

We did not evolve on this planet to run around at night when you can barely see. The problem with technology is that it fools the body into thinking that it’s a certain way, when it’s not. For example, when you wear sunglasses, your eyes receive a different signal than the rest of your body does, which is likely to make you work in conditions that you simply should not be outside in. Now that robots are beginning to get a bit more advanced, we are likely to enter an era soon where most people will be indoors, while robots do all the work outside when conditions are bad. Of course, this is still several decades away.

When the energy of the sun goes down, your body naturally wants to shut down as well. It’s got work to do at night, including assimilating and getting rid of the day’s influences. It is a good idea to start shutting down at dusk and be more or less prone by the time it’s dark. This is assuming that you live at or within a reasonable distance from the equator. If you live in Norway or some other country with extreme weather, well, you’re never going to succeed spiritually anyway, because your life will be all about surviving as best as you can in horrible weather. This is why I recommend people come to Tucson if they want to work spiritually—the weather here is very supportive most of the year. In the US, you cannot do much better.

If you want to sleep well, it’s important that you not eat anything heavy at least 6 hours before sleeping. It’s alright to have a meal, even right before bed, as long as it’s something easy to digest, but if you eat something heavy, you will not breathe properly when asleep.

The colon and your mind

There is a very strong connection between your colon and your mind. When the colon is full, your mind will not work properly. This is one reason it is recommended to skip breakfast—after you’ve gone to the toilet, your mind will work beautifully and you should give it the space and time to do so. Too many people in America ignore their colon, instead of being aware of it. You should always know how your body feels, not just overall, but even individual parts of it. If you feel something is wrong, you must wait and get rid of whatever’s causing the problem. And yes, 99% of the time, elimination is more than sufficient to keep you healthy—you should not need to go to a doctor or take medicine.

But for that to happen, you’ve got to eat mostly fiber and water, most of the time. You don’t need food, as such (i.e. stuff that actually stays in your body and provides material for it to grow or repair itself). Food is things like milk, meat, eggs, protein-rich stuff, etc. Americans are unfortunately going in the opposite direction right now, trying to stuff themselves with as much protein as possible, in the mistaken belief that it will help them lose weight or whatever. It doesn’t work like that. You may lose weight temporarily, but your body will hold onto garbage for a lot longer and when you’re weak, it will all come back in the form of cancers and such.

Make sure to eat plenty of fiber and get lots of water and you’ll see that in fact, the vast majority of the time your body doesn’t need anything else. Most people can get away by eating a bit of protein once a week or so. I know there are body builders who disagree, but I have no interest in people who simply want to build up something that will anyway die and go back to the Earth. It’s a pointless exercise, no pun intended.

Besides, focusing on your colon will make you pay attention to your base chakra, so to speak. I don’t usually talk about such things because they are esoteric, but it’s worth mentioning, because doing that will ground you more, and most Americans need a lot more grounding than they’re getting.

So we’ve reached the end of the day. I know I haven’t spoken about sex, something that seems to be occupying a lot of people’s minds nowadays, for various reasons. And I won’t, because it’s not that important. Sure, your body needs pleasure, but a morning quick self-massage is enough in most cases. Plus, if you take a shower, eat good food, exercise, rest enough and regularly empty your bowels, your body will feel pleasurable all the time and you won’t have to do anything extra. It is because you lack the simple pleasures of life that you believe you have to go find someone and make things complicated for yourself. Let me share a little anecdote with you.

Ecstasy

I was living in North Carolina at the time, existing in a very high state of energy. One fine day, when the sun was up, I was driving to work. Along the way, I stopped to allow a bunch of school kids that were getting onto the school bus. I don’t know what happened that day, but all those children with their backpacks, colorful clothes and smiling faces just turned into a bunch of butterflies, not actually, but in feeling. I just watched, mesmerized, as my whole system was driven to a point of ecstasy just watching these butterflies flitting around. I started crying, unable to control myself. It was such a powerful experience that I remember it to this day as vividly as I experienced it then.

This is what life should be like. You must exist in a state of joy, be happy and have all the energy in the world to rise up and meet God Himself when necessary. Little things in life should drive you mad with ecstasy because then it means that your energies are flowing correctly. Your body is made to be super-sensitive, the gift of billions of years of evolution. Live beautifully, take care of yourself and you’ll make the most of what nature has done for you.
